The Singing Rock Merlin alpine ice axe is a lightweight classic ice axe, ideal for glacier traverses and easy ascents. Its straight handle Type 1 (B) is made from 7075 aluminum alloy, a material that is very light yet truly strong. The Merlin ice axe blade is chromed steel and penetrates easily into hard-packed snow and even ice. As with the Singing Rock Wizard and Wizard Light ice axes, the adze is designed to cut protruding snow or snow cornices. The head of this ice axe has an ergonomic shape that fits your hand, especially to keep it comfortable to hold while you walk. Classic straight-handle ice axes like the Merlin are mainly used as walking sticks, so it's important that the head is comfortable to grip with the hand. The shaft is steel and does not have a non-slip grip, which makes the ice axe lighter. Both the head and the shaft have holes large enough to attach a carabiner or a wrist leash. In fact, the Singing Rock Merlin alpine ice axe includes the Fix polyamide wrist leash to secure the axe to your hand. The Singing Rock Fix wrist leash has a breaking strength of 1 kN (100 kg).
